Why you must visit the Amazing Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall

Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall in the middle of Fantasyland is a fun place to eat and visit in Tokyo Disneyland. It’s a quick service dining area (basically a themed cafeteria). This was actually our second attempt to get in to this Restaurant. On our first attempt the restaurant was full and you could not even go inside the restaurant even for a peak. You also cannot reserve a table for this restaurant. We were fortunate to visit this restaurant in April 2019.

Why Visit?
I love Alice in Wonderland, so to find a whole themed restaurant devoted to this story was wonderful. There are a few ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed restaurants in Tokyo, but for food and aesthetics, I think this one wins hands down. A lot of the Tokyo themed restaurants have set rules where everyone must buy a main course and a drink – together with a cover charge of 500 yen. Whereas this restaurant inside Disneyland, you can buy as much or as little as you want at the Banquet Hall. The restaurant is better themed too in my opinion.

Would it appeal to people who do not like Alice in Wonderland?

I think so. Its very colourful and there are some great photo opportunities within. The food is quite reasonable too for quality and cost (considering its inside a theme park). Many people visit just for the cakes.

How to get in

Consulting a few people on Facebook I found that if you go at an off peak time (we went just before 4pm on a weekday in early April), it was actually easy to enter the restaurant. We actually just walked straight in – no queueing at all for anything.  It was not busy at all and there were plenty of spare seats! So tip one – visit during off peak eating hours!

You also cannot actually go into the restaurant without purchasing food first (to stop people loitering).

The Food

The food is quite reasonably priced at Queen of Hearts. Many people order ‘unbirthday cake.’ Small cakes start at 430 Yen, but it’s a bit more economical to buy the large unbirthday cake and share amongst family members.

We ordered the rotisserie chicken (chicken leg), mashed potato and carrots/broccoli. It was very tasty and the meat just fell off the bone. The bread rolls are sweet (210 Yen) and there is free water supplied. Chicken 1450 Yen.

Some of the food is a bit odd – like a beef Pattie without the bread bun? But it is served with raspberry glaze sauce and apparently tastes nice! Maybe you are supposed to buy the bread roll separate to make a proper hamburger perhaps?

The menu options include beef, chicken, fish and seafood along with soups, bread rolls, rice, salads and desserts.

General consensus seems to be if you are still hungry after your meal- go buy some more bread rolls or rice with your meal to fill up.

You can also purchase collectible cups and plates that are ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed and make a great souvenir too. Souvenir plates costs 1000 Yen and are packaged up for you so they won’t break.

Theming

The theming begins on the outside of the banquet hall – where the playing cards are busy painting the rosebushes red. You then go inside the Banquet Hall where you enter through an enormous door knob (to represent you have now shrunk in size to the world of Wonderland). The path then leads to a line of ‘card men’ that take you to the cafeteria. Do the Card men have names in the book?

The line took no time at all (so I recommend about 4pm on a weekday). We chose our meals and sat down. Inside there were several areas you can sit in (slightly different themes in each area) and it was not crowded at all so you could sit anywhere you liked. When it is crowded there are Cast Members who do assist you where to sit.

The Banquet hall felt a bit like we were sitting in a movie set. There are colourful giant flowers that loom overhead while you are eating, or you can sit by the amazingly detailed stained glass windows that have familiar characters from the movie like the Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter etc. You are also free to walk around the banquet hall and take photos.

As the restaurant was not busy when we went, it was also a great place to chill out and relax before heading back into the heart of Disneyland for more rides and experiences. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Be warned though that during peak times there are queues to get in, so make sure you plan your visit for an off-peak time for eating.

I hope you enjoyed reading about the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall inside Tokyo Disneyland. If you would like to comment please do so in Comments as I would love to hear about your experiences.
